eBay Find of the Day: 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo - Some assembly required

Lamborghini Gallardo exploded-parts-diagram eBay find - Click above for a gallery

The shell of the Lamborghini Gallardo that was gutted to make the bizarre Ford-Mustang-meets-Lamborghini Tractorri showcar is for sale on eBay.

The orange bull is laid out like Humpty Dumpty for some well-heeled Alice - or Alistair - to put back together again. The only thing is you'll need to find a new engine, driveline, suspension, interior, and electronics among other things, since they were all used for the SEMA car. Or, you could just pick up the innards of a Mustang and make the inverse of the Tractorri -- the Mustardo, perhaps? You can bid at the link, or just have a look at the exploded-parts-diagram gallery below. Thanks for the tip, Jake!

VIDEO: 0-60 gets a Hyundai Genesis Coupe to tune and track

Click above to watch the video after the jump

As we showed you earlier today, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe is proof that the South Koreans know how to have fun. In the hands of the right tuner, Hyundai's rear-wheel drive rocket can go from a good time to great reason to get out of bed in the morning.

The guys and gals over at 0-60 Magazine somehow managed to get their hands on a 2.0T Genesis Coupe before the rest of us, with the sole intention of turning an already capable track companion to a total driftmonger. Yes, driftmonger. Hit the jump to see a sneak peak of what 0-60 did with their pet project. You'll see a big ol' rear wing, some carbon fiber, and plenty of tire-shredding sideways antics. Looks like fun.

Spy Shots: Latest Porsche 911 GT2 caught testing?

Posted by Noah Joseph on March 31st, 2009

Since Porsche introduced the latest version of its 911 range, hardcore enthusiasts have been patiently awaiting the inevitable higher-performance models while Stuttgart distracts everyone else with special-edition Cayennes and the new Panamera sedan. But now that the latest GT3 has been released, only the most powerful versions await an update. Up next are the track-focused GT3 RS, the force-fed Turbo and the grand-daddy of 'em all, the GT2. The latter variant has just been spied, although you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference from the outgoing model from looking at it.

In addition to the minor tweaks given to the entire 911 range, the next GT2 will reportedly benefit from some additional engine tuning. A new direct injection system, bigger combustion chambers, upgraded crankshaft and new oil and water pumps. Together, the package is expected to help bring output up from the current 530 horsepower to 550, enough to propel this Carrera to 60 mph in about 3.5 seconds. Rumors are still afoot that an even more powerful version - dubbed the GT2 RS - may be under development as well, but in the meantime, we're anticipating the latest 911 GT2 to bow at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the Fall.

Michigan’s Oakland County to grab NAIAS from Cobo?

Posted by Jeremy Korzeniewski on March 31st, 2009

We can't blame Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson one bit for thinking the North American International Auto Show might be better served by moving locations away from Detroit's troubled Cobo Center. The building itself has been in disrepair for years, with a leaky roof and a poor electrical system generally cited as its most urgent needs. When an agreement was finally reached that would have fixed most of Cobo's many woes and expanded it with an additional 166,000 square-feet of floorspace, we all let out a collective sigh of relief.

Unfortunately, in what our own John McElroy called "a stupefying move at the 11th hour," the Detroit City Council voted down the proposed plan by a five-to-three tally, saying that the $20 million the city would be paid to give up power over the dilapidated building wasn't enough. Naturally, this action drew ire from a number of important sources, not the least of which being the automakers who are growing increasingly fed up about the horrid state of affairs at the Detroit Auto Show.

Here's where Patterson comes into play: "If this thing goes down, I'm done," Patterson has told The Detroit News. "I'm not going to go back to Detroit to try to resurrect the deal. Five years is enough." Unfortunately, Patterson's plan to move the annual event to another location in the Detroit area has a few potential snags of its own. The next largest nearby venue is the Pontiac Silverdome, which is about two-thirds the size and has been empty since the Detroit Lions left the stadium in 2002.

And what does the embattled Detroit City Council have to say about Patterson's proclamations? "He's bullying us as usual... he just wants everything on his own terms" says councilwoman Barbara-Rose Collins.

This is one sordid affair that seems likely to drag on for years with no end in sight.

Ford reportedly turning its back on production Fiesta RS

Posted by Jonathon Ramsey on March 31st, 2009

The Ford Fiesta RS has been canceled before - back in 2005 - and yet the rambunctious little hatchback lived to tell the story. Rumor has it that the hottest Fiesta has been canceled again, but these being changed times (and coming on the heels of news that the factory-tuned Fiesta ST has been canceled) it will be much more difficult for the even hotter RS to play the resurrection game.

If this news is true, the reasons for the RS being canned are the same as it was the time: meager profit potential. The Fiesta ST reportedly has a chance of being revived in 2012, but until then, it's apparently standard models for everyone.

Event Alert: April Calendar of Automotive Events

Posted by Frank Filipponio on March 31st, 2009

This year's New York Auto Show promises a few surprises

April might be best known for its rain and resultant flora, but we hope sunshine prevails. After all, April marks the beginning of the IndyCar season with an undercard of ALMS in St. Petersburg, as well as a follow-up race for each series in the shadow of the Queen Mary from Long Beach, CA. NASCAR powers through Texas, Arizona and Alabama, Grand-Am makes stops at VIR and Thunderbolt, and Formula 1 visits Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai and Bahrain. We also get the New York Auto Show as well as other motor shows in Vancouver, California's Ontario, Albany, the Inland Empire, Denver and elsewhere.

There will be auctions in Palm Beach, Toronto, and Carlisle, vintage drags in Fontana, a GoodGuys stop in Del Mar, the Copperstate 1000, Top Marques Monaco, and the Street Rod Nationals up in Bakersfield, as well. If none of those events appeals to you, check the Google Calendar after the jump for even more listings, all with detailed info and links. We've tried to list the highlights as well as a few smaller events that we hope will be of interest to you. Feel free to use the comments section to add or modify listings.

Putin Power: Even Russian automakers to get a bailout?

Posted by Jonathon Ramsey on March 31st, 2009

Lada C Concept - Click above for a high-res gallery

According to The Detroit News, Avtovaz, Russia's largest car maker and the home of Lada, is in line for government help. The Russian car industry is faring even more poorly than its counterpart in the U.S., with a 60% drop in sales being predicted. To assist Avtovaz with payments to creditors, a lifeline of more than 20 billion rubles is being discussed (upwards of $588 million USD), which would be close to Avtovaz's total debt to suppliers and banks.

It is also being reported that Avtovaz is looking to sign an investment memorandum for 90 billion rubles ($2.7 billion USD) with a cartel of state-run banks. Compared to the sums being doled out in the U.S. that's not a lada money (sorry, had to...), but if Avtovaz can get the agreements signed, it should be in better standing.
